freshman at SLO

Hey all, my name is Lisa, I'm an incoming freshman at SLO and very excited about starting in the fall. One thing I'm worried about is if my roomate and I will get along. If we don't is it possible to change, or are we stuck?

I know at Pomona there is a time that you can switch roommates if you want. Its probably similar up there

Should depend on the availability of space in the student dormitory. I had trouble getting into the dormitory during the first year as most rooms were full.
I had a friend who was had to suffer for one quarter because his roommate was a lot of trouble- touched his stuff w/o permission, drank, loud, and etc.

Hey Lisa -> It is possible to change your roommate, but generally somewhat difficult. I'm sure that you are aware of the student housing shortage at Cal Poly. However, if your roommate does anything ridiculous (e.g. drinking in your dorm, excessive noise at night, and so forth) the RA would step in.

Hi Lisa,
I opted to do a roommate switch last year, and found it to be very easy. It might depend on your CSD [coordinator of student development]. All you need to do is go in and talk to both your RA and CSD, have a valid reason for wanting a switch and where you'd like to be moved to. Then, within the next few weeks, the CSD will call back with possible moves. Then, you have the opportunity to go and meet the other people living in those rooms who would be your new roommates. Afterwards, you just call back with the desired room. I decided at the last minute to not go through with the switch, but was nice to know about how easy and carefree it was. Most of the people in my dorm were all pretty cool. What dorm did you get into? Hope this helps!

I'm animal science as well. I've finished my bio series for vet science, (bio 151, 153) If you stick with animal science and are pre vet, or if you do switch to a bio major, I highly recommend Dr. Black for all the bio classes you can get him for. He's awesome!
I saw you are from Santa Cruz. My roommate last year was too.

Thanks for your recomnedation CPMustang, I'll try to get him when I can.

That's cool your last roomate was from Santa Cruz. I know a couple of people at my school that started there last year. This year, there are about nine of us from my school starting at Cal Poly in September.
