| Fire-breather | The site is likely experiencing diffuculties with the server's internet access as I believe it is hosted from home and not at a hosting company. Last I heart Matt won't be able to check on it until he gets home tonight around 9pm. Sorry for the inconvenience! |

It was true... I called and got the problem fixed approximately 5:30 PM tonight, was down around 10AM. So... 7.5 hours of downtime. Sorry about that, I'm in the process of upgrading the speed of the server... but... this appears unrelated. I reset the router and modem and everything turned right back on. So... something crashed. FYI, the website will go down for maintance for at most an hour friday... so take care of any business you need before friday to make sure you aren't unlikely and get cut out. (I got the phone company coming, so they're going to do some tests and stuff.) | |

| GCP.com Admin | Oh... i'm seriously contemplating getting GoDaddy.com to host gradecalpoly.com for as little as $10 a month! With over 100 gigs of transfer a month, it will be downright impressive! Two things holding me back are: -Class Database backend program would have to be run on my home computer, and UPLOAD the database to the server. Causing a 1 minute downtime in that process, if done at 3 am, no big deal. -Schedule Finder uses a LOT of processor power. I got a 2 Ghz CPU in there with half a gig of ram so that schedules are found quick and fast. Last I saw... finding 2000 schedules took approx 4 seconds, and 3000 schedules approx 8 seconds. I don't think any hosting company will have more powerful CPUs to let me use... so that'll slow down. And if i'm always using them for schedule finding, they'll be mad for me taking too many resources. ![]() So.... looks like I need that cheap residential fiber they have planned. ~150KB/sec upload rate. 8x faster then what there currently is! Bah... only offering it in select Los angelas areas. Aah well... in due time. in due time. |

![]() | Whoa....the deluxe plan is one heck of a deal. ![]() "And if i'm always using them for schedule finding, they'll be mad for me taking too many resources." Would they (GoDaddy or other webhosts) really complain if a customer uses too much resource?

| GCP.com Admin | I've heard of it being done before, maybe not godaddy.com. They're really good people... but others don't tolerate some of that stuff. And I mean... my schedule finder TAKES cpu power to run. They might even throttle me down to use 10% of their CPU at max, which is plenty for web hosting, but not enough for computations... perhaps I could call and ask them. $120 a year is dirt cheap for the speed it might provide... i'll think about it, and see how this quarter goes. |

| GCP.com Admin | Sorry everybody, but the website is again down. It went down at about 10AM, ETA minimum is 3PM, maybe even later if things don't go as planned. I called the phone company and asked them to work on it this friday when I was home so I could make sure the website is only down momentarily. But they decided to work on it today. I don't know what's wrong because the server is in Anaheim, 30 miles away. I might make a special trip to see whats up if my family that lives there can't fix it with a simple reset. Zoe: DSL is one fickle beast, because it uses copper lines that were originally designed for much lower quality. Also distance is a big key... and there are many unknown hurdles and stuff with phone lines in the polls... distance is hard to measure because phone lines rarely take a close to straight path. DSL can be pretty bad for people passing 13000 feet from CO. I am about 11000... i've had good luck with sync... for the most part. |
