| GCP.com Admin | Changing Servers - Expect Problems 3/15-3/20 Hello Everybody, GradeCalPoly.com has been hosted on a personal computer off a DSL connection since it opened in Fall of 2004. This has been a problem during peak times because a DSL connection is not a good choice for hosting a webserver due to bandwidth constraints. To correct this problem, GCP.com is moving to a commercial web server with commercial bandwidth. This is a wonderful thing, but there are many technical hurdles that must first be fixed to restore GCP.com to a fully functioning website gievn its unique design. A deadline for the transfer is 3/20 in time for late registration, but anything can happen. My priorities are getting open class notifaction and professor reviews online first before anything else. |

| GCP.com Admin | Update 3/15 3:00PM: The website is now transferred over to the webserver it will remain. The transition so far has been very smooth. All features are working except those below: -Open Classes -New User Account -Contact -Updating w/ School schedule -Updating Book Lists With as smooth as this transition is going, I expect to be complete much sooner then originally anticipated. Please respond here if you notice any error messages besides those listed above. |

| GCP.com Admin | I completed the code upgrades needed to make it work. So many bugs cropped up in the process I am sure there are more I did not notice. Please let me know if anyone has any problems, because there is a good chance that a hundred others are having the same error message. Please just copy and paste me the error message. Thank you! Good luck on getting your spring classes! |

![]() | Is GCP.com faster to load with the new server? Although it is merely a fraction of a second or a full second, all pages and search outputs load faster. Probably makes a huge difference when hundreds of Cal Poly Pomona students logs in during the registration period. Good decision in your part. |

| GCP.com Admin | Thanks Kwak! ![]() Overall I am very pleased with the server migration, at a cost of only $5 a month from GoDaddy.com I have ample bandwidth, speed, and capacity. The stability of having some professional web host is also a plus versus my personally run computer where I'd accidentally knock the power cable loose ![]() |
