![]() | I'm sure we do have some rival in name, but I don't think the student body comes out in force enough to have any sort of "fun" with it. The school is too commuter based for the students to really have a rah-rah sense of school pride. A lot of students only come here for class and are never seen again, they don't attempt to try to add something to the culture of Cal Poly Pomona. I believe that was one of the reasons the football team was canned in 1982...not to mention the outright laughable defeats of the last 3 years of the team. I really do argue for a move toward a residential campus, I think it would benefit both the campus, and the cities of Pomona and Walnut in general, think of the economic benefits if they built a college oriented area around Cal Poly instead of the cheap little strip mall that exists on the corner of Valley/Temple. Cheers! |

I doubt that would really happen. UCR and UCI is located in an urban area. Cal Poly Pomona is located in not-so-urban area (i.e. horse ranch). So no entertainment center near our campus. And those UCs have more student members and large population size compared to Cal Poly Pomona. I usually skip through the SPORTS section of the Poly Post but I do recall Cal State Fullerton and Cal State Dominguez Hill. Not sure if there are any intense rivalry going on though.

I think one of the single worst things about the surrounding area of Cal Poly is that it somehow ended up becoming a industrial park area. If there was some agreement worked out to change it into a college town area, I think we would definitely see some more interest in staying around. Maybe we should talk with the Department of Urban Planning ?Cheers! | |

![]() | I doubt Cal Poly Pomona would want the area to be more urbanized. The university is known for its suburban, ranch type environment where students can get away from the city and study in such environment. Even Cal Poly San Luis Obispo has a similar environment as Pomona. Things won't be changing on our campus except additional new buildings like the foodcourts, residence halls, and parking structure. ![]()

![]() | I don't hear much rivalry going around in our campus sports. I don't hear my colleagues talk about the Broncos basketball team or the soccer team. Heh, I don't even know when the season starts for the basketball. Not much of a rivalry, is there? |

![]() | Who actually came to Cal Poly Pomona expecting an on-campus environment? I knew the university was a commuter school and that there is an absence in school spirit. I like the environment and the programs Cal Poly Pomona offered. If I wanted lot of shopping malls and entertainment center, I would have gone to UCLA, UC San Diego, or CSUN (not that I would have gotten accepted into UCLA or UC San Diego). Back to the thread starter, I only recall Cal State Dominguez Hill and Cal State Fullerton on the Poly Post sports section. Not much of a rivalry though. |

| Newcomer | SLO...their campus is much more beautiful and they are right next to the beach, their ocean has a large array of marine life, they have the Hearst Castle which is just plain marvelous, California missions, and they do have many shops, the whole area is just so serene. Though, it is not urbanized, it is much more different and favorable than the city of Pomona. Quote:

![]() | Sounds like a beautiful campus. Is one day enough to check out all the hotspots and visit the campus in San Luis Obispo? Quote:

| Newcomer | I meant, just in Pomona. There's lots of cool stuff in the greater area, but there is nothing to do IN POMONA. I live in Laguna Niguel and I could move to Pomona/Diamond Bar, but I won't. Quote:
