| Fire-breather | A: I used to get into the holiday spirit about a week or two before winter break. Now... well, now it's more like a day or two before Christmas day. Q: Do you like the idea of chopping down a perfectly good tree for the purposes of decorating it for a couple weeks?

![]() | A: I do not like the idea but many families would disagree. And also, when the trees get old, the landlord will cut down all the christmas trees and burn it all. Which will eventually go back to our air. Q: Why does television broadcast play the "This is a test of the Emergency Alert System—this is only a test…"? (hehe, I just found out on google) |

| Fire-breather | A: I found a history of the Emergency Alert System (which replaced the Emergency Broadcast System in 1994) here: http://216.239.57.104/search?q=cache...roadcast&hl=en. Basically the test is to ensure that the technology developed for quickly disseminating emergency-related information is functioning correctly. They used to test it every week. Now they do the weekly test internally and do the test broadcast once a month instead. Q: Landlords burn leftover Christmas trees? Isn't that illegal or something?

![]() | A: Maybe not all parts of California but midwestern states where residents reside within a forest and the mountains, they are responsible to cut down all the dying trees to prevent forest fires. If the landlord do not comply with the city officials, they are fined until they cut down their trees. Second thought, not Christmas trees because they are not grown near residents and properties. Q: Are you doing your Christmas shopping via online or brick & mortar this year? |

| Fire-breather | A: Ugh Christmas shopping, is it that time again already? It tends to be a combination of online and retail store shopping. When we know exactly what to get and it's there's still plenty of time, we get it online. Otherwise it's hunting through stores to see what there is that might be good. Q: How much do you usually spend on Christmas gifts?

Q: Keng, do you mean which groups celebrate Christmas, or if we as individual members of this forum celebrate?

| Fire-breather | A: I see two ways to celebrate Christmas: 1) Religiously, where you do whatever it is Christians do to celebrate Jesus; and 2) Honor the spirit of Christmas and the ideas of kindness, generosity and goodwill behind it. I might fall into the second category because I like the ideas of helping your fellow humans and being kind to others. However Christmas is so tragically over-commercialized to such extremes that it pretty much smothers the original messages of Christmas. Plus I think people should be kind, thoughtful and giving ALL THE TIME. Not just in December. So in the end I guess I don't celebrate Christmas after all. Q: What is the most annoying thing about Christmas to you?

| Fire-breather | A: Interesting question. If you are properly conditioned and have done warm-up stretches already, then 15 minutes of air splits probably won't harm you. A flying squirrel attack would definitely be more dangerous. However if you're like me then your leg muscles will probably be torn in 12 different places, which I would imagine is worse than the skin wounds inflicted by flying squirrels. Q: Don't you just want to bop those moms who give in to their spoiled kid's whining and crying? Giving them what they are crying for (typically candy or toys) only reinforced this severely annoying behavior!

![]() | A: Tell me about it. My cousin is like that! Spoiled brat. Hopefully, he will learn to appreciate all the things that his parents are doing for him. I think there are good (and some poor) reasons though why parents buy all the goodies for their child. Q: Are you camera/camcorder shy? |

| Fire-breather | A: I wasn't quite sure, but I was guessing it's when you jump high into the air and do the splits, like some cheerleaders and a lot of Claude Van Damm movies. Q: Why is it necessary to post signs on the freeway to point out that there are overhead power lines? I noticed some new signs on the 405 yesterday and can't figure out why they're there. The lines are way higher than any of the overhanging freeway signs, so why is it imperative that I know they're there?

| Cal Poly Guru | A. Maybe so people don't throw shoes on top of them. It's a sign so people can tap the line and get free electricity.... Q. Why do people tie shoes and hang them on street wires?

| Active Member | A. There are two reasons people hangs shoes on street wires. 1. It represents were the big gangster, or the head of the gang lives, also shows their territory. 2. Bored kids. Q. Is it crazy or hard to double major in chemistry and chemical engineering?

B. 6 toes or 6 fingers? | |

| Fire-breather | A: 6 fingers! That way when I wave at people they'll do a double take and wonder if they really saw that many fingers. That'll also make finding shoes that fit easier. Of course I wouldn't be able to wear standard gloves, but there are always mittens. Q: What's your favorite kind/breed of dog?
