Talking Question!

Why do some people attend a community college before going to a university? I heard a rumor from a friend that it is actually better if you take all your prerequisites while at community college, and then take your actual courses at a university. Is that true?

Rumor? Is not a rumor. It is a solution.
Choosing to attend a community college can either be their own preference or maybe the only option that the student has.
The salutatorian of our high school planned on attending a community church. Beats me what the reason was. She was a real bright girl.

Students can save money by paying low tuition fees at a community college. Community college might be at a closer distant compared to a university. Maybe their GPA was not good enough to meet the Cal State/UC requirement. Or they did not get accepted even though they met the requirement. Their friends are attending a junior college and they decided to tag along. They have a part/full time and attending a community college helps them save time and money. Attending a community college can prepare a high school graduate into higher education (get their feet wet). There are many cases where a new Cal State and UC student could not handle the amount of workload and challenges and unfortunately, gets disqualified. And the student returns back to a junior college. There are more reasons why students choose the college route.

Some disadvantages that I heard from others are: Attending a community college was a waste of time, in terms of the education and challenge the student had received. The student could feel unmotivated to study because they feel they are better than where they are. Community college has a different environment than a Cal State university (experienced it). The instructors may not be satisfactory in terms of knowledge, teaching ability, friendliness, and challenge. Some community colleges are very crowded! Community colleges lack campus activities, events, and fraternity & sorority groups. You might not experience the "college life" (whatever that is). The list goes on.

LOL. Good times ...

From what I hear from my girlfriend who attends... and what i see from friends who attend. I see no educational advantage to community college versus a university. The conditions are so bad at community colleges I would only advise people to go if their are dire finacial reasons for it, and given the abundance of finacial aid most people should be able to attend a university.

Although, some people aren't geared for serious education; It's too bad our society demands this of so many... but a community college gives so much slack to students they often give up. For example, Cal Poly Pomona allows 3 weeks, while Cypress College gives 10 weeks to drop out of a class.... my girlfriend talks about how less then 25% of the class is left in harder classes. Less then 50% in mildly difficult classes.

Community colleges often offer a bigger array of cheap vocational classes though. But... for 4 year level degrees... i don't recommend it one bit.

Junior college blows. Took a summer class once in a nearby college and boy was it a mistake. I could hardly understand what the teacher was talking about. The class was real slow paced.

I always heard JC or community college classes are easy as hell, basically High School part 2.
