Prop 70

today in our class an expert on prop 68 said that the race tracks have given up on the vote and expect it to go down. he also said that the ads for prop 70 are very deceptive. it looks like teachers and students support 70 because it allegedly makes the gambling industry provide a fair contribution to the state's tax base. in fact, the proposal offers only about one quarter of the taxes that most other states require of gambling. the truth is that most groups in education are against 70. the governator already has a deal struck with five tribes for 25 per cent of their revenues which is the industry standard. this prop would lower that deal to the tune of millions of lost revenues for schools and such. other thoughts?

I'm voting no to both 68 and 70 because, if the tribes have already reached an agreement, I don't see any point (or any fairness) in passing something that will change that agreement. If the tribes are supposed to be sovereign entities, then we shouldn't be passing laws that don't have their approval, especially laws that break previous agreements.

right on, dragon...no to 70.
let uncle arnold do the dealing with the tribes. they are trying to pull one over to proliferate casinos all over the state for table crumbs while they become millionaires.

Speaking of Arnold... he's actually a surprisingly good governor. Who woulda thought? I mean... he makes some dumb mistakes on occassion like suggesting we decrease the time to 3 days we hold pets at animal shelters to save costs, but he lets other people correct him... thats the power of democracy!!
