Problems setting up a router

Ever since I changed DSL connection to cable high speed, nothing but problems. Not even the technicians seem to know what the problem is and one of their solution was, "try replacing your network card."

Surprisingly, the connection came back this afternoon. I setup the router and did the reset and restart for the PCs. But only one of the pc works.

Anyone know what the procedure is to get the router and the connections going?

What I do if my router seems to have a problem is shut down all the PC, disconnect the router, disconnect the cable modem, power on the cable mode, wait for the lights, turn on the router, and turn on the pc. This usually fixes the problem.

Try it and see if it will work.

That's because Cable Modem regonize your Router Mac Address and block it. Some of the Cable Modem that cable company provided even block some port like FTP etc.

I sure woulndn't use a dsl or cable service that blocks out ftp access.
You shouldn't be charged for such extra service like using a router for networking.

There are two way to get through it.
1. Get your own cable modem and save $5 per month (for charter)
2. Set up your ftp by using other port than 21

Kaycee, what you need to do is access the router. Then duplicate the MAC address of your card. After that plug cable/dsl to router and turn unplug cable/dsl modem for 3 minutes then re-plug it. It should be fine after that.

Got it! I've done the unplug and reset on the pc. Found out that I had to enable the network on the xp system, which I previously disabled as there was 3 network on the machine. No idea but it works fine now. Thanks.
