I hear people often say, "..... and what not."
When do you say that and why?

That's not all. One more:
"In a nutshell, ....."

People usually add these phrases when they speak rather than finding such phrases inside a book. Wonder I never learn about these in English 104.

According to dictionary.com, In a few words; concisely: Just give me the facts in a nutshell."
Not sure about the above idiom although I hear people say it.

"You can drink, party, dance and what not." I use the phrase to replace other available word that relates to the sentence spoken. I've replaced other activities like "You can drink, party, dance, socialize and crash" with "what not."
