Question Nearsighted Male and Female Mate (Bio majors)

1) Is myopia (nearsighted) carried over from parent's gene 100%?

2) Or is myopia affected by poor lighting while reading, watching television in close distant, and etc.?

3) If a nearsighted male and a nearsighted female mate and reproduce an offspring, is there a percentage or a formula to figure out whether the baby will also have a nearsighted vision?

I don't think it's carried over 100% of the time. Neither my mom nor my dad were nearsighted. My sister wasn't either. But I, for some reason, needed glasses by the time I started high school. They say it's the shape of your eye that causes near- or far-sightedness.

I always wondered if there was any validity in the claim that sitting too close to the TV will ruin your eyes, or reading too much for that matter. Every time my mom told me that I thought it was just kaka. It made no sense to me at all. Yes your eyes will get tired from being focussed at one distance for a long period of time, but how does that make you nearsighted?

I'd be interested in any answers other people might have.

Yes, looking an object at same distance for a long time will ruin your eye....I know that for fact as I have been wearing pair of glasses since 3rd grade...

But how do you know you weren't just born with an imperfectly shaped eye? How much eye strain could you possibly have been doing before you reached 3rd grade?

Wow, you were using a computer that much before you hit 3rd grade?? Impressive!

My bosses are both computer users and own their own business. This means after working on a computer all day they go home and work some more (I'd never want to own my own business, too much work!) However neither of them wear glasses or contacts.

Did a quick online research and yes, "They say it's the shape of your eye that causes near- or far-sightedness."

Astigmatism is the most common vision problem among people. Sometimes incorrectly called a "stigmatism," astigmatism may accompany nearsightedness or farsightedness. It's caused by an irregularly shaped cornea and is corrected with eyeglasses, contact lenses or refractive surgery.

The thing is your eye is pretty much settled down after you hit 20. I have nearsightedness before I have astigmatism, caused by reading under poor condition or reading in motion like on the car etc.

I guess it's a good thing that I get sick if I try to read in a car then. I was always jealous of those who could read a book during long roadtrips. I never had anything to do but look out the window.
