Manga has always been popular since high school days but I never got caught up with it. I still know a lot of college students watching manga videos and comics.

Isn't most imported mangas in english?

I used to read the Manga version of the TV Anime series : Legend of Galactic Heros. It was a really fine show with deep social reflections on our current societies.

I like reading well produced mangas, but I still cannot identify with some of the Japanese value system, namely honor, deep loyalty, macho-ness. I still cannot understand why so many Highschool dramas populate the Japanese Manga / Anime. I want to see more productions such as the Patlabor series and one of the stand alone Gundam movies. Those have high production values.

Oh and Animatrix is good too! Finally some anime that fits my taste! Matrix + Anime is a winning formula. Has anyone seen it as well? What do you think about it?

Is sharing anime videos online illegal?
I saw the cover of Animatrix and someone told me that you should watch the movie to get the full story of the Matrix triology. I didn't know why though.

I heard they are now catching people sharing music via Kazar or other programs, so it involves risk to share things online using those file sharing services.

However, Animatrix has a total of 8 (or is it 6) parts, each is an independent segment with its own story inside the world of The Matrix. At least 4 parts are downloadable from the official website for free, while two (or 4?) are disc-only. I rented Animatrix after watching the downloaded free segments.

No wonder anime is so popular in other asian countries and here in the U.S.

I can't believe how popular Dragon Ball is in the States. I finished the whole comic series when I was 5th grades, which is 9 years ago.

No way, DBZ's last volume (42) didn't come out in 1995... wait did it?? Damn, that's a long arse while ago...

Sharing Anime/Manga is perfectly legal as long as the said title has not been licensed in the US. A great place to start would be http://www.animesuki.com/

Oh, I was talking about the Asian release schedule. I'm from Hong Kong, after all...

Heh, I actually started this thread to see if anyone knows good places to buy Hong Kong version mangas. I'm curious, do you still buy mangas? I suppose Taiwanese version mangas are pretty close.

I have been following a few series online. I read both traditional Chinese scans and English "scanlations," however right now I'm kinda stuck since some have been licensed and some I just simply can't find...

Go to the Live Plaza in Rowland Heights. It's on the 60 exit Fullerton. It's also called Diamond Plaza. Also the book store in the Pacific plaza, opposite street of Hong Kong market.

I think I know that place in Diamond Plaza. It has a cafe in it right next to the manga section ,with like 5-6 rows of shelfs full of manga, right? It's AFAIK rental only.

I need to pay a vist to that place across HK market, thanks for the tip.

What is popular today in manga? English subtitles available?
And the difference between manga and anime?

And what is up with the anime porn, whatever is called? I think they went alittle too far with that.

OMG, that store in Pacific Plaza is awesome. Bought four books on my first visit

Trader: Mangas are comic books, while animes are videos. There are mangas "scanlations" (comes from scan and translation...) out there. You can also buy licensed (=translated) mangas in Frys, right next to the animes DVDs, AFAIK.
