I had to laugh...

I read the Poly Post "People's Voice" section about partying, and I had to laugh at this clown:

“You can always retake the class but you can’t relive the party.”

I fully expect to see that guy still bagging groceries when he's 40. He may even have a child support payment or two to make a month.

If you think I'm being harsh, let me say that I have seen this happen time and time again to family, roomates, and friends.
My sister is 32, has no college degree, and a kid without a father. She still works in a dumpy "gentlemen's club" in Anaheim (at least she doesn't dance). She has no goals for the future...no career goals, no savings, much less retirement planning. The ONLY thing that is keeping her off the streets is that my parents are giving her an INCREDIBLE rent deal on our other house.

I'm not saying don't party, but work hard. Otherwise, you'll get bitten in the ass HARD some time down the road.

I know I giggled with delight when I read that. I mean, I feel pity towards the guy because it's pathetic.... but at the same time I giggle with pure delight by the fact that he was stupid enough to say that.

Seven years is way too long. I can't believe it. Anyways, I guess this shows to prove that work comes before play. At this rate it seems like he will never get out of college.

Psycology major? 7 years? Hard to do much with that except if you get a higher education in it. I know many people who are in college purely because society expects them to be, and wouldn't otherwise be. Or they go to college because it's easier then getting a job, and it's fun to be social. I don't know who this guy is... but it's often a moderate waste of resources for these kind of people.

College is not for everybody... but then again, some people aren't very good at living either. I'm sure everyone know's someone's like scannergeek's sister. My uncle is a lost soul like that. Eh... it's all too bad, not much can be done about it that radically helps I think.

Perhaps we can blame TV?

At that time I might have a double major, or working for my PhD. Don't judge people just because someone does not have a college degree. I happen to know a friend who barely finished high school, and currently she is working as a financial manager at a auto dealership.

I KNOW PLENTY OF PPL that are taking them 7 years to graduate... they are HARD WORKERS... and they have 2 work to help out their family. It's usually the minorities that have to go thru that cuz the white ppl already have it good/made. The only reason a white person would take them 7 years is exactly cuz of what that guys said: parties, frats, etc.

YEAH! DON'T JUDGE SOMEONE BY THEIR INTELIGENCE! Some ppl want 2 graduate in something so bad, no matter HOW DUMB THEY ARE!!! (no sarcasm)

Some guy in my class is the plant manager for a nuclear generating station over at the catalina islands... he's working for his MFE degree... it'll take him like 8 years (mostly cuz of work). HE DIDN'T go to college right after high school, but he's making ALOT MORE than what we'll ever make in a year...

HOW MUCH does he make? let's just say that when he goes 2 class, he takes a helicopter.

I put parties over studying!!! In high school i was a geek loner... it sucked!!! now that i know im not ugly, and that i am funny, and SOCIALLY ACCEPTABLE, i love partying!!! oh, btw, i'll make it in 4 years in case anyone asks me what about school.

I have been a bookworm since 8th grade... by now (4th yr of college) i am tired of it and i just wanna get my degree, start working, and partying!! No more studying, and all-nighters will have a new meaning.

I can only hope that you are kidding. White people are heavily discriminated against in employment and university admissions. When I applied to law school, it made me sick that others with lesser qualifications could be offered admission simply because of their skin color. Get off your high horse.

I find that, broadly speaking, those college students who put partying over passing classes are those who don't give a crap about the expenses involved. If they can stay in college as long as they want because their parents are bankrolling it, why should they put any priority on graduating and launching themselves into the working world? Those who do worry about the expenses are fully aware of how much money is needed to stay an extra year or two. They don't dawdle. And it has nothing to do with race.

That's quite commendable. You know how to balance your study as well as your play. I'm talking about the morons who play INSTEAD of study. They don't care about passing or failing because they don't have to worry about the money.
