Happy Chinese New Year

Happy Chinese 4701th New Year!

In Chinese calendar, there are twelve different animals (Rat, Ox, Tiger, Hare, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Sheep, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, and Pig [in order]), each having a significant meaning. 2003 was the year of the Ram and this year is the Monkeys.

If you were born on 1980, you animal is the monkey.
1981 - Rooster
1982 - Dog
1983 - Pig
1984 - Rat
and so forth.

The Chinese New Year is also celebrated in different parts of Asia, including Japan, India, Korea, Vietname, Cambodia, Thailand, and Singapore (correct me if I'm wrong).

As all traditions, during the Chinese New Year, everyone gathers with their family and meet up with their relatives. Chinese New Year is also known as the Spring Festival. The ritual that takes part during the New Year is "spring-cleaning" (not in all Asia) where you refresh your home.

I don't know about Japan. My Japanese friends said that they don't follow the chinese calendar any more.
