Actually a lot of religious groups do. There are Jewish and Buddhist organizations that do all the things you just mentioned. Christians are not the only ones who do charity work you know. And I think the US govt. does plenty. In fact they sometimes need to turn their attentions back to the problems INSIDE the U.S.

right again, dragon...i come from a communist country where religion used to be suppressed. when i get to america i have choices never imagined before. i have been to lots of churches in the years here in the states and every one of them had some kind of outreach to feed poor people locally. and that likely applies to all religions and not just christians. the common thread for all is a little word called LOVE, or agape in greek.
