Cell phone service

I am changing my cellular phone service. I am think about switching to T-mobile. I need to know how the service for T-mobile is in the Cal Poly Pomona area. I especially need to know how the service is inside the dorms, since I will be living there.

i have Verizon and it has GREAT reception on campus... especially in like the parking lot area... but I hate it cuz the plans are like 400 minutes for like $40.00 a month while ATT offers the same charge for like double the minutes, and also cuz it has super awful reception at home.

2nd on Verizon. I pay $49.99 for 600 total minutes and free weekends. The good thing is that I use near 600 minutes.
Haven't bothered with the other services.

I've been using Verizon for almost 3 years now. No complaints, well except that their plans are slightly overpriced. But it comes down to this, I am willing to sacrifice some minutes for the luxury of having receiption in case of emergency (or convinience).

I use AT&T as well. There are a lot of cell transmitters on campus, so reception is very good, even when you're inside buildings.

Even when I was at the Village, my phone usually had 3 or 4 bars (out of 4)

They actually have some on campus? It'd be interesting to go check 'em out, I know they gotta place them pretty often and I'm curious to see what they look like. Know where any might be? Anyone?

I'm sure they are well hidden. Not all cell phone coverage is handled by those (ugly) towers or those fake palm-tree towers.

The towers go up first, then the cell phone companies check signal strength in the field. When they find a "dead spot" they talk to companies in that area about putting "booster" antennas on/in their buildings. Some are very well concealed-they are mounted in an alley behind a building, and painted the same color as the building. Others are mounted on the roof.

I suspect that there is one at the top of the CLA "point", and there may be another one on that radio tower north of the 10 freeway. If you stand in the quad and look toward the 10 (toward building 1) I think you can see it.

I'll keep my eye out for one and take some pics.

Considering that about 10% of us seem to be on our cell phone any given time... there has got to be quite a few cell phone towers within range! Sounds like a fun exhaustive study... I wonder if the I&IT department would know where the towers are... oh wait, that can't be true.

I'm also switching from Verizon to AT&T by the end of October. The bill was a big high.
