Best route to beat the crowd?

I'm sure you guys are very familiar with getting stuck in traffic both when arriving and leaving the campus

Lets first start with the fact that I live in Glendora and before school started I used to take the CA 57 South, exit at Temple Ave, then proceed to South Temple Dr and Kellogs Drive. Little did I know how @$%#$ crowded that route (referred hereafter as the main route) could get.

On the first day of school I got to the CA57/IS10 junction at around 8 and noticed that the two lanes leading to the exit to Temple AND the Temple Ave overpass were dead. Having decided that I wasn't gonna wait to cut in there I thought I might as well exit at Grand Ave and take the back door. Then I realized that the CA57/CA60 junction is ALWAYS crowded and so I got off the freeway and took Golden Spring to Grand. Knowing that Valley still led to Temple/S Campus Dr I decided I might as well take the last route available, went straight until I got to Mt Sac, turned right on Temple and parked my car at lot K.

I moved my car to lot F during lunch (2.5 hrs...) since my last class that
afternoon was in Bldg 98.

It was around 5 when I finished class and I couldn't believe it when I got stuck on the main route for like 20/25 minutes til I could get on the CA57.

There was no f*n way I was gonna endure this every day, so I looked at the map and tried to come up with some alternative routes.

After a few days of classes I've tried out a few of these alternatives to the often crowded main route and I must say driving a mile or two more is WAY better than getting stuck in traffic.

Now when I'm coming to the campus I take the CA71 and exit at Valley, take Ridgeway so I can reach Kellogs from the other side of S Campus.

When I leave the campus I take Kellogs/CA10 West entrance and either make a "u turn" at Via Verde or take Via Verde back to the CA57 to avoid Kellogs/S Campus.

Saves me roughly 10-15 min.

Hope that might help a few of you. Of course I also encourage you to post your own route

Definitely. Saves gas in the long run.

The best route would be to arrive early.
If I depart home at 7:10a.m., I get stuck at the exit of Kellog Drive (interstate 10) and another 10-15 minutes to get parked far away.

If I depart home at 6:45a.m., there are no cars at the exit of Kellog Drive and I get to park my car on the street , across of the Rideshare.

Waking up 20 minutes earlier makes a huge difference for me.

My first class starts at 9:15 on Tue/Thu's and I have a hard time convincing myself to leave at 6:45... partly because of my job and partly because I don't really know how I'm supposed to spend 2 hrs on campus.

On Wednesdays my first class is at noon. Though that's no big deal as I don't mind having to park further away as much as getting stuck in traffic.

However, I still want to know: Where's that street you're talking about? And for that matter, where's Rideshare?

Cal Poly Rideshare
You apply for a rideshare pass at the pointy building.
When you carpool in the morning, you go the visitor parking booth. I think they give you a rideshare pass for the day.
Then you can park your vehicle on the Rideshare section, which is side-to-side of the Staff parking lot.

I guess I should take the 10 west and turn around when leaving, that should save me some time, but is there a faster way to get to the campus from the north than taking Temple?

Ok, I figure out where the ride share lot is, but still, what street are you talking about? Right now I'm parking my car on Red Gum Ln, right between the lot C and F8.

Take CA71 from CA57, exit at Valley, turn right, turn right again at Ridgeway, then turn left at S Campus.

I also had to park my car at the furthest and took me awhile to walk.
The shuttle bus doesn't seem to go around the parking lots. And how come the shuttle bus don't even go inside the campus (or does it?)?

This question was addressed in today's Pizza w/ President event. The answer was that they wanted to keep the inside campus free of traffic for safety reason.

BTW, I choked at that Coke vs Pepsi question

The only way is to get there early, and by early I mean 7:00 am. Otherwise you might as well just park far away (lot K for example) and walk a bit, which is still better than waiting 30min+ for a spot.

Getting to school early in the morning means sacrifice of your sleeping time.
I always take morning course but I always kick myself for waking up so early while others are probably sleeping in their warm cozy bed.
