is anyone out there?

So what's the social life like compared to, say, UCSB? Obviously there's lots of drinking and such going on there, but what about Cal Poly? All I can find out is an ambiguous "it's fun" or "lots of old people live there and it's really expensive. What's the dealio?

From a commuter perspective:

Cal Poly DEFINETELY feels like a commuter school. Little or no social life (well maybe because i'm in engineering and am not active in any frats). I have never felt the "UCxx" spirit or social life at Cal Poly...pretty sad.

It seems to be that way at Pomona. But it all depends on which club and crowd you hang out with. If you decide to join a party frat, you would spend your weekends drinking and clubbing. Or if you are busy struggling with two jobs and college, you would be a commuter.

If I don't need to be on campus, I don't stay...
I've got the two jobs and college lifestyle....

Do you know if SLO is like that also? And anyways I'll be on-campus, since I refuse to commute 3 hours to and from everyday.

You are the person who chooses the college lifestyle.
Although a large percentage of Cal Poly students agree that Pomona is a commuter, if the student chooses to participate in all activities and what not, the student no longer feels apart from the college.

Get the best out of San Luis Obispo and everything that the college has to offer. You'll be fine man.

Consider visiting the campus if you have the opportunity (during your spring break maybe) and check out the campus life and get an official tour.
And living on campus (dorm life) would be much more fun or interactive compared to commuting.

GREAT! Thanks for the advice! I'm coming up during the Open House in April, so hopefully that'll be informative. Are those genuinely useful, or do they just roll out the brochure tour-guides and sweep the rest under the rug?

You should check out the summer Open House program. I don't remember the name of the program but it is a 2 day program (you have an option to sleep in the dormitory, meals provided) in June or July. New freshmen are encouraged to join the program, get a tour of the campus, join ASI programs (movie night) and a chance to register for the Fall quarter before other freshmen.
Genuinely useful. Ask the appropriate department if such program is available for new freshmen. Hope that helps.

By the way, where does that character appear in (to Redd Pumpkyn and Teflonjim)?

Alright, I'll check into that, although we might be on a family trip during that time (argh x_x). Does it cost much money?

Ah, that would be GIR, the SIR unit from the greatest cartoon on the planet, INVADER ZIM. Sadly it was discontinued because the wonder of ZIM was not realized, and only 2 seasons were completed.

You can get official DVDs of the show now, but there was always pirated stuff available. They had a supper exclusive soundtrack CD, too.

Sorry... ZIM is one of my hobbies... Jhonen Vasquez is hilarious (also the author of Jonny the Homicidal Maniac)

What station was this program on?
I remember the days when Spongebob Squarepants and Patrick was real cool.

It WAS on nickelodeon, but parents kept complaining that it was too disturbing for their children to watch (what the heck are 5 year olds watching tv at 9:30 for? Send those brats to bed so I can have my shows, dagnamit!!) So it got pulled last year.

Same thing happened to Family Guy. Damn funny show.
But Family Guys is still played in one of the cable channels in Dish Network.
