Mat 191 Or Sta 120

Which Should I Take My First Quarter As An Incoming Freshman. I Passed The Elm And Can Take Either One. Mat 191 Is Survey Mathematics And Sta 120 Is Statistics With Applications. Any Suggestions For This Incoming Freshman? Any Professors In Particular I Should Sign Up With?

Hi,
Congrats on passing the ELM. What's your major? The reason I'm asking is because the math class that you are required to take depends on your major. For instance, I believe students who are liberal studies majors have to take MAT 191, whereas psychology majors, like myself, have to take STA 120. I would suggest that you find out what math classes are required for your major. If you do not have to take either one and are able to select whatever math course you want so that it can satisfy GE area B1, you might want to look at the course catalog. I took STA 120 and from my experience I can tell you that Statistics is a little difficult especially if you have never been exposed to the subject before. If you take Statistics, I advise you to buy both the textbook and solutions manual. Read the textbook carefully. Don't let yourself fall behind because if you don't understand what's going on in chapter one then you will not understand what's going on in chapter four. Most importantly, seek help if you need it. As far as professors go, check out www. gradecalpoly.com because it will help you choose the professor that is best for you.

Yes ART140,150. Take it since it's the pre-req. Take art history to get it out the way first.

Thumbs up

Depending on what you wanna major in, it might require STA120 or the other course. I think a lot of courses require stats. I took that class my first quarter, be prepared to study.
