Service-Learning is a way of teaching that has students actively participating in the community while learning the theories they need to be successful in their course. The student learns a theory inside the classroom and then go out into the community to apply it while providing a service to the community partner. For example, if you see EWS 202 and EWS 202S they are still the same class, however EWS 202S might be taught with Boys and Girls Club or Pomona Day Labor Center to help the student get that real-world experience. You still get the SAME ACADEMIC CREDIT for the course! You can tell a service-learning course from a regular course by going on Broncodirect or the CCS-L website http://academic.csupomona.edu/ccsl/c...se_listing.asp.

Now I remember. I'm currently taking EWS 202S with Dr. Gomez and I remember you visiting our class to talk about the Service-Learning program. Great job on the presentation.

Service Learning had definitely enhanced my learning experience at Cal Poly. This was my first time taking a Service Learning course - EWS 202 (Chicano/Latino Experience) and I had the opportunity to partake on the preparation for Dia De Los Muertos (a.k.a. 'Day Of The Dead'). It was a fun and fruitful learning experience. A true 'hands-on' learning experience.
