Let me begin this with a simple fact; I support minorities in academia 100%; my girlfriend (hispanic) just finished her M.S. in Civil Engineering at Poly, and my friend Jeremey (an African American) is just finishing up his B.S.M.E....*however* , it is not the job of Cal Poly or society for that matter to make minorities not be "turned off" when they see the "statistics" of the area (referencing the fact that you stated many minorities can be turned off by the "statistics"-> a large presence of whites?). You note that most UC's tend to be "white dominated" -> who's fault is that? The fact is, minorites have it easier getting in to a difficult school, much easier than someone like myself, a white male. If anyone should be upset about "diversity" in an educational institution it should be white males; it is socially acceptable to severly discriminate against them.
