| America doesn't go by popular vote for many many reasons. If you search google I'm sure you can find the reasons. The truth is, most of the original reasons don't stand anymore; Senators USED TO BE done in a similiar fashion. They're much happier that they don't have to deal with it. Presidents? Well... the republicans of our country are so polarized and happy that Bush won last time via electoral college, despite losing the popular vote... and they believe in state power. All in all... i think within the next 25 years we'll see it switch to popular vote.
