today in our class an expert on prop 68 said that the race tracks have given up on the vote and expect it to go down. he also said that the ads for prop 70 are very deceptive. it looks like teachers and students support 70 because it allegedly makes the gambling industry provide a fair contribution to the state's tax base. in fact, the proposal offers only about one quarter of the taxes that most other states require of gambling. the truth is that most groups in education are against 70. the governator already has a deal struck with five tribes for 25 per cent of their revenues which is the industry standard. this prop would lower that deal to the tune of millions of lost revenues for schools and such. other thoughts? |
