To me, Mac OS X embodies a clean, if somewhat non-customizable, design, excellent development API (Cocoa), a Unix-based back-end, and a philosophy of consistency.

Perhaps the last one is something that Microsoft should also force developers to adhere to, I don't need to find where preferences is depending on the developer's taste...it's always under the menu that bears the name of the application...I don't need to look in Edit or Tools or whatever.
