Sonoma is using "raw PeopleSoft" without a front end, which generally does not get good reviews from students or other users. Actually, most of what you see once you get into BroncoDirect is straight PeopleSoft, and that's what BroncoDirect attempts to address for better or worse. Most of the complaints we are hearing, for example the cumbersomeness of viewing the class schedule, come directly from the PeopleSoft interface, not the BroncoDirect layer which is actually pretty thin.
We're working on making some changes, in particular with how the class schedule is displayed, that respond to the comments we've received. Hard to say exactly when they will role out, we know people are confused enough with a new system so we're trying to control the rate of change. |
Excellent source of information there from a real insider! I'll check out the other systems when I have the time to, a better, easier to read class schedule would be a very welcome tool. If there was someway to allow people to multitask that would help as well, it seems the current system stores the last known URL address so you can't search for classes while having the "class add" page present.
I don't think downloading the whole class schedule would be very useful to many students, I was just trying to point on the ineffiencency of looking for classes. I personally liked the amazing simple one line course informations that were used before broncodirect. That way it could be copy and pasted into a text editor and easily compare classes.
I was actually so frustrated with getting schedules, and classes, and searching, I designed my own system, that even puts the schedules together for you. If something like that could be added to Broncodirect, it would save every student an hour or more. But... then people need to look up teacher reviews because nothing is worse then getting a teacher that doesn't work for you. Check it out at www.gradecalpoly.com
