Choosing Cal Poly Pomona (Info)

Polytechnic approach
Recognized for the quality and wide range of its degree programs, Cal Poly Pomona offers more than 60 undergraduate programs, 20 graduate programs and 13 teaching credentials/certificates in seven colleges and one professional school. As one of only a few polytechnic universities nationwide, Cal Poly Pomona integrates technology into a liberal arts education as well as into the applied sciences. This long-standing polytechnic approach makes us unique among traditional universities and has earned us the reputation of developing individuals who are among the most sought-after in today's marketplace.

Learn By Doing philosophy
Cal Poly Pomona's polytechnic approach is paired with a learn-by-doing philosophy. Blending theory and practice into all programs ensures that you get real-world experience and the ability to bring these skills to your first day on the job. It's the very reason why Cal Poly Pomona graduates are actively sought by business and industry and move directly into chosen careers.

Nationally Ranked programs
Cal Poly Pomona is ranked as a Top Western Regional Public University by U.S. News & World Report and has a number of nationally ranked programs. No matter which degree program you choose you can count on being taught by nationally recognized professors with industry experience, learning in one-of-a-kind centers and laboratories and having the opportunity to get involved in regional and national academic competitions where Cal Poly Pomona students traditionally excel.

Dynamic community
Cal Poly Pomona's community is dynamic, not only for the many ways to be involved, but for the diversity of its members. You'll find Cal Poly Pomona is alive with academic, social and volunteer opportunities to enhance your personal growth and development. Work side-by-side with faculty on research projects, garner a unique internship or join an academic club. Volunteer in the community. Or, strengthen your leadership skills by taking office in student government or participating in any one of our 240 clubs and organizations. No matter what your interest, you'll find something that reflects the diverse interests and backgrounds of our nearly 20,000 students.

It's A Great Time to be a bronco
Cal Poly Pomona Broncos are internationally and nationally recognized in both academic and athletic competitions. The university's athletic teams boast 13 national championships - the most recent ones coming in 2001 and 2002 for women's basketball. In recent years, our engineering students took the top overall prize in an international Foruma One student competition, the English Honor Society was chosen as the Outstanding Chapter nationwide and major honors were won for the fourth straight year by our student team at the National Model United Nations conference. Go Broncos!

Beautiful campus
Located on 1,400 acres of green rolling hills yet only 35 miles east of downtown Los Angeles, Cal Poly Pomona offers you the energy and opportunities of a large university with the feel of a small college. Originally the winter ranch home of cereal magnate W.K. Kellogg, the campus retains his working Arabian horse ranch alongside rose gardens and avocado groves. Most buildings are within easy walking distance of each other.

Affordable quality education
At Cal Poly Pomona, a quality education costs less than at comparable universities. If you are a California resident attending full time, yearly fees are approximately 2,500 and books and suplies average 1,250 per year. Out-of-state students pay an additional $188 per unit, bringing their total fees to about $9,300 per year. If you choose to live in the campus residence halls, yearly costs for room and board average about $6,800. These fees are as of April 2003 .
