CARPOOL

The Only Choice for Preferred Student Parking
What is Cal Poly Pomona's Student Rideshare Program?
The student population of Cal Poly Pomona is over 17,5000 and growing. If each student shared the ride with just one other student, we could substantially reduce the number of vehicles coming on campus.

Student Ridesharing accomplishes two very important goals:
(1) Smog reduction in Southern California.
(2) Ease of traffic congestion on campus.

Cal Poly Pomona's Student Rideshare program is committed to helping students share the ride to school. We recognize the need to help both the short and long distance commuter change old commuting habits. Our program can show you just how easy it can be to rideshare.

Are there benefits to Carpooling?
Yes. Of course the most recognizable benefit to student carpooling is preferred parking. No more searching for a parking spot and no more parking far, far away. Student Rideshare signs have been posted in Lots D and J. You may park in the preferred parking lots on the days you carpool.

The other benefits to carpooling are sometimes overlooked, but are very important:
  1. Money - Carpooling saves wear and tear on your car. It also saves on fuel costs.
  2. Stress - "Misery loves company" as the saying goes, and it's much easier to tolerate traffic frustrations with a carpool partner.
  3. Time - Think of all the time you waste comuting to and from school. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to sit back and let someone else drive while you study?
  4. Clean Air - More than 60 percent of the toxic emissions causing smog are from automobiles. Reduce the cars and reduce the smog.

What if I Don't Have a Rideshare Partner?
It's easy to find carpool partners. Simply fill out the Student Rideshare Commuter Data form and you will receive a matchlist..absolutel y free.
The Rideshare Office has a computer database that can match people by city, zip code, major or even the route you take to Cal Poly Pomona. The print-outs include the current class schedule times for each person on your mathclist.
Confidential information, such as your actual address or social security number, will not appear on the matchlist.

How Do I Get Started?
Sign up for Student Rideshare by contacting the campus Rideshare Office, building 98 (CLA), room B1-45.

The Rideshare office will issue each registered member of a carpool a special Rideshare parking decal good for the current school quarter. The Rideshare decal attaches to the bottom stripe of your Cal Poly Pomona student parking permit.

On the days you carpool, you must stop by the Parking Booth in front of the CLA building to obtain a daily Rideshare pass. This daily pass is date-stamped and must be displayed face-up on the dashboard of your vehicle.

To park in Student Rideshare Parking, the carpool needs to display both a student parking permit (with a Rideshare decal attached) and a daily Rideshare pass.

Does it Really Matter?
Imagine a freeway not clogged with traffic. Imagine blue skies and clean air. Imagine a pleasant commute to Cal Poly Pomona.
Together wecan make a difference. Each time you carpool you are helping to reduce air pollution. Try to rideshare even one day a week and everyone benefits; you, your car, your environment and your health!
