the front page of the poly post has done it again.
it states cal poly pomona ranks sixth in the west according to us news and world report. nowhere on the front page does it mention that there are several other qualifiers attached apart from the obvious one of western states only.
the first qualifier is that private schools like chapman and azusa pacific, which have blown by us in the new york minute, are not included.
the next qualifier is that the research universities (read the entire UC system for example) are not included either.
so it's a ranking of us against the bakersfields, sonomas and stanislaus states of the region.
but then the kicker...the post claims we are tied for sixth with (gasp!) the university of colorado. one small problem, mr. news editor. that university is a national research university, a tier one national, not even in the same category.
then on page two it goes on to say that we're tied for 32d with arizona state university among universities that do not offer the doctoral degree. another small problem, poly post. people have been getting doctoral degrees in tempe for decades. ASU is a pacific ten school and another tier one national....where is your credibility?
we've been over this ground many times prior. last year the post did the same thing, made a correction, and now is back at it again. we have a fine university as posted elsewhere in areas notably engineering, architecture and urban planning, and hospitality management. but nobody in boulder or tempe are worrying about us because the post got it wrong again.

:
time for another retraction/correction.
