here's another one: outside shooting. when your two starting guards are barely shooting thirty per cent from downtown you pack it in and frustrate our big man. he was ejected from the last game and that signalled another early foldo. we don't scare anybody from downtown like we did in the jboyd days.
donelle is shooting a whopping 26 per cent from the line and he's not very productive in other categories either. flashy players who are not fundamentally sound do not fit in the kamansky mold, but coach k. has few options unfortunately, so donelle does as much damage as good.
lakdod, the wwu announcers said it best. this is a physical team that looks like it could beat anyone. but sadly it prefers thus far to beat itself.
i predict we will handle this team from new york and dig out of the hole somewhat, probably making the round of four in the conference playoffs. but there are too many things to fix and too many teams with almost equal talent and a good headstart for this team now to realize its potential.
the other matter is the future. other schools are adding more scholarships, improving their web pages, adding radio and webcasts, upgrading their arenas, etc., while we seem to be going in the opposite direction. coach k. says he wasn't even able to schedule more than 25 games. xiaoxue, i only hope your prediction does not come true, but this outstanding coach deserves much better. |
