THE 411: TRUE LIFE: CPP GRADS
From Paul Viveros, President of the Cal Poly Pomona Alumni Association and 1992 Graduate from the Collins School of Hospitality Management.

The word commencement means “a beginning.” When your graduation day arrives, I hope you will look at your commencement as a new beginning with Cal Poly Pomona. Joining the ranks of 94,000 alumni makes you part of a large and very well connected family. With 80% of us living within a 40-mile radius of the campus, we are not hard to find. Staying connecting is easier than ever. Join the Alumni Association.

The Alumni Association was founded in 1972 to assist in the continued educational and cultural growth for Cal Poly Pomona alumni. Today, the Alumni Association supports 10 academic and special interest alumni chapters, a student alumni association and several programs. The Association also provides benefits such as discounted car, medical, and home owners insurance, a loan consolidation program and invitations to countless events. We strive to have something for everyone. Some programs include:

Professor for a Day – Alumni are able to come back to campus and teach a class for a day. A luncheon is held to honor our faculty and guest professors.

Alumni Scholars Program – The Alumni Association actively supports scholarships and raises money for several endowments. Through the chapters and the Association, over $6,000 is awarded annually.

Alumni Connections – Once you graduate you can join our on-line community. You can search for other alumni and update your information.

Distinguished Alumni Program – Each spring we honor an alumnus or alumna from every college, school and athletics. Honorees are recognized for their achievements within their profession, community outreach and service to Cal Poly Pomona.

Alumni Brick Program – You can be a part of the campus landscape and purchase a brick with your name, major and grad year, to be placed in the historic rose garden.

If you are graduating this year, come by the alumni table at Grad Fair for a visit. You can join the Alumni Association and preorder your commencement DVD. For more information, visit http://www.calpolypomonaalu mni.com.
