During routine monitoring of computer and network operations, Cal Poly Pomona recently discovered that computer hackers had gained access to servers affiliated with the Division of Student Affairs and the Division of Administrative Affairs. Immediate action was taken to secure the files on these servers and restrict access to the data, including your personal information. While there is no indication that your personal information was targeted or will be used for any unlawful purpose, we are bringing the event to your attention as a matter of caution and suggesting that you be on the lookout for any possible misuse of your personal information. Please accept our sincere apologies.

The website http://www.idtheftcenter.or g/fraudalerts.shtml offers information on identity theft. California residents are entitled to a free credit report annually. You can request a report from one or more of the credit agencies at www.annualcreditrepo rt.com. Monitoring and periodically reviewing your credit report is an effective tool in fighting identity theft. Additional information may be obtained from Equifax (800- 525-6285; http://www.equifax.com/), Experian (888- 397-3742; http://www.experian.com/) and TransUnion (800- 680-7289; http://www.transunion.com/).

The university has established a Web site, http://www.csupomona.edu/notices/security and a toll-free number, (800) 921-8085, to answer questions and provide information to those impacted.

CAUTION: In similar cases at other institutions, people have reportedly been contacted by individuals claiming to represent the university and asking for personal information, including social security numbers or credit card information. Please be aware that Cal Poly Pomona will only contact you regarding this matter if you ask us, by email or telephone, for information. We will not ask for your full Social Security number. We will not ask for credit card or bank information. We recommend that you do not release personal information in response to any contacts of this nature that you have not initiated.
