Who exactly did you hear that from? I've seen them on campus before too, and "valuable custom/people relation skills" can be gained ANYWHERE at fair wages, not deceptive commission based selling of highly priced knives. The trauma these businesses cause people is big too, it would be hard to work for a normal company after working for one of these.
Most of these companies REQUIRE you to spend money BEFORE you can work for them. They pray on college students because they normally have extra time, are ignorant, and have money available to them.
The way we sometimes accept deceptive and explotive business practices is disturbing for the future of our society.
