arch is a pretty technical major, which means many CSUs don't have this. if you have a D on your transcript you have a lot of proving yourself to do at a major university level before you can start thinking about cal or even irvine. i know ppl who did not get into cal with 3.9 GPAs. i would be delighted to be at pomona, which is ranked second or third among the 23 campuses in the system.
as for weekends, go check out ANY CSU. it's not about pomona. that's the way things are anywhere. students go home or out of town to party when they can. school is a lot of work.
