I agree with JPWRana and Trader on how the editors at the PolyPost and many major newspapers are biased toward their parent organizations / funding provider and write things in vague, euphemisitic ways so no body gets offended.

But I am disappointed because the school and various student organizations still uphold the banner of "Champions of the students." They repeatively stated that "Student have a fair say and strong influence toward all aspects of campus life and school policies." I remember during my freshmen orientation, an ASI rep spoke in a loud speaker that they will always be the represenatives for the students and defend student rights. To me, the thing I think violates my rights is the quality of some lecturers. A small minority of the faculty is clearly unfit to teach. Yet for all these years the PolyPost still hasn't mention a word about it. I am not calling for an all out bashing of instructors or any name-calling event, but if the PP would just to bring up the issue, then some of the instructors will think twice before refusing to answer student questions during office hours (telling them to read the book again), giving out 0 minus grades to students they perceive as "inept," or close the door and pretending not in office during office hours (a particular new faculty member is known for hiding in office and not answering the door).

I know much of the "student organizations" rallying calls are empty promises to make them look good, but as the PolyPost demonstrated, much of the "student organizations" and publications are clearly pro-adminstration and afraid to touch sensitive issues. It is ok to butt-kissing the adminstrators, but it is not ok to do it while acting they are doing it "for the student's sake".

LA times does not champion the role of "voice of the people." Polypost uses student writers and student editors, calls itself the voice of students while leaning toward the adminstrators inside the CLA building.

Just curious, besides the student events, what else does the "ASI Senate" do on behalf of the students. $10-20 per student per school term as the ASI / Student Union fee can really add up. I hope we are not paying those "senators" to sit around and planning their next election.
