Stereotypes are basically factual observations of a given population. This population, however, is limited in breadth. These observations consequently hold true for the sample, but not neccessarily for the whole. Given that humans tend to you use their environment as sort of like inherent background information on a particular matter, stereotypes are consequently extrapolated to represent whole racial groups, in which case elements of racism are present.
